International Arbitration

This is a complex and very specialist area of law, with few firms in Scotland having practical, hands on experience in dealing with International Arbitration. That is where our team is head and shoulders above the rest.  The team has a number of International Arbitrations under its belt and ongoing instructions.  The team provides a wealth of experience in this area, advising on all aspects of transnational trade, including transactional business, drafting and negotiation, different forms of dispute resolution, and all stages of international arbitrations, including preparation and conduct of the advocacy in the UK and abroad.  One of the team (click here for details) is a Visiting Lecturer on International Arbitration at the University of Edinburgh and a member of the Global Academic Faculty, Course Director and Visiting Lecturer at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law Practice (CEPMLP) at the University of Dundee.

As international trade has increased, so have international disputes, and there has been a steady growth in the practice of submitting those disputes to International Arbitration. This is because the parties often wish to avoid such disputes being tried before the national courts of their opponents (with issues of bribery, corruption and bias always being a concern); and the desire to find a neutral decision maker to resolve such transnational disputes.
