News - Promotions at Young & Partners
With effect from 1 April 2007 Ruth Waters became a partner of the firm and John Cassells was promoted to senior associate. This is how the Dunfermline Press reported the news.
Young & Partners, Dunfermline’s specialist commercial legal firm announced two promotions effective from the start of their financial year in April. The first of these saw the appointment of a third new partner within the space of a year.
Ruth Waters, who specialises in construction law, joined the firm as a consultant last year and has now been appointed a partner. Managing Partner, Tom Johnston, told the Press, “Ruth was a partner in a major Glasgow firm before completing a masters degree in construction law at the University of Strathclyde. She set up her own specialist construction practice in 2002. We were delighted to have her join us last year. The synergy has brought a new dimension to both sides of the practice. Ruth’s skills have added greatly to our litigation department which already dealt with a significant amount of construction, engineering and technical work. On the non-contentious front we have been able to introduce Ruth to our developer clients and this has added to the service we are able to provide.” Ruth told us, “I was delighted to join a firm with such a terrific client base. The quality of work I am dealing with compares favourably to the sort of caseload one would expect to see in many city firms. Young & Partners have a flexible and pro-active approach to the law which is refreshing and different.”
At the same time, John Cassells was promoted to Senior Associate. A native of St Andrews, he joined the firm five years ago after training in Edinburgh and practising in Perth. He now lives in Kinross and is a keen curler. John is a senior member of the commercial property team which this year reached the final three in the Scottish Legal Awards Commercial Property Team of the Year category. Tom Johnston commented, “When you consider that there are over 1,000 legal firms in Scotland and most of them deal with property in some shape or form, to reach the last three is a terrific achievement. All members of the team, from partners to trainees, benefit from Johns’ technical expertise. His steady and dependable approach to difficult technical issues, coupled with his dry wit, make him a most valued and popular member of the firm.”
The firm has just announced a second consecutive record year and hopes that the custom-built new premises at George Square, on the south-east edge of the Carnegie Campus, will herald another year of growth. |
